Ascension Day in Brugge

While I was in Belgium I decided to take a day trip to Brugge. Brugge is basically Belgiums best preserved medieval town that looks like something straight out of a fairy-tale. I can’t even explain how cute it was! I felt like I was walking through the set of a Disney movie the entire day!

Now, it’s not often that I’m in the right place at the right time, but this day I totally was! I was just roaming around the streets of Brugge, and as I turned the corner I basically stumbled right upon a huge parade. There were hundreds of people lined up on the streets getting ready to watch, and here I am just looking around totally clueless as to whats going on! The parade was one of the coolest parades I’ve ever seen. There were so many people in it, I swear every local was participating!

I didn’t find out until later that night that it was actually Ascension Day (39 days after Easter). It just so happened that this year it was on May 25th, which was the exact day I was there! So, major stroke of luck for me! Anyways, here are a bunch of photos I took from that day, enjoy!Processed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a5 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 presetProcessed with VSCO with f2 presetProcessed with VSCO with a6 preset

I went to the Brugge Historium which is right in the Market Square. You walk through a bunch of rooms, and each with a different theme, and follow a story that’s based in 15th century Bruges,

These canals are just sooo cute! I so desperately wanted to hop on one of those boats, but the line was insane because of how many people were there for Ascension Day!

The streets looked like this through the entire center of Brugge. You can even see people siting outside their windows watching!

I walked two miles to see these beautiful windmills and it was totally worth it. They were built in the 13th century, and are situated right on edge of the canal that surrounds Brugge. It was super hot (for me at least…I’m used to cold Irish weather nowadays), so I took refuge under a tree and had a nice picnic.

Visiting Brugge only made my love for Belgium grow! It is seriously such a beautiful little town! If you ever find yourself in Europe, be sure to visit Brugge. You will not regret it! Well, that’s all for this post! As always, thanks for reading:)

Love, Kaite.
